Down In Ashes
There are four distinctly different personalities in Down In Ashes. Kim, the gifted singer and prolific songwriter, whose calm demeanour is the band’s strength. Yves, the rugged charmer who’s talent shines on bass and backing vocals. The mysterious Koji, a master of guitar, whose smile is hugely contagious. And then there’s Steve, a comedic stage natural, who gets serious on drums.
Down In Ashes first came onto the Eastern Ontario music scene in early 2006. The rite of passage for this band started similarly to most young bands, working the local weekly shows and trying to grow the fan base and industry interest. Gradually these four musicians did stand out as Kim’s song writing skills couldn’t be ignored, the players in the band gelled musically and the shows became seriously tighter.
Knowing there was “something” there, the band confidently began entering regional contests presented by promoters and local radio stations…and they started winning. As for most serious musicians, the winnings provided the cash to get into the studio. With the first release Sexy Machinery in hand, the band started exploring new markets, regularly touring in Montreal, Kingston and Toronto, growing the need for their sound while the radio stations supported the singles and presented the shows. Naturally due to demand, the band recorded and released their self-titled second EP, which spawned two videos by acclaimed Canadian Director Adrian Langley.
Festival stages became the norm for Down In Ashes and the band shared stages with the likes of Alexisonfire, Danko Jones, and Moneen. Radio stations love interviewing them and Down In Ashes have been featured across the board on Ontario rock airwaves.

Another foray into the studio for a third recording culminated with the band choosing studio magician Mike Langford to nail down the sound. Taking time in studio, making sure that the tracks improved sonically and after numerous rewrites, the album finally showcased the band’s sound to perfection.
With the songs ready, the stage show defined and the fan base in place, Down In Ashes will be touring leading up to their full album release in early 2012.
There is “something” there indeed.
